4. InTech Luna
Name | Length | Weight | Sleep |
---|---|---|---|
InTech RV Luna | 15.6 Feet | 1,800 lbs | 2 |

Overview: I initially decided not to include full teardrop trailers in my research for this article. However, I changed my mind after seeing the InTech Luna. The front profile is what attracted me to the lightweight teardrop. Luna’s front is not like a typical teardrop travel trailer. This huge panoramic window looks incredible instead of the usual teardrop profile.
The Luna has one of the most beautiful outdoor kitchens I have ever seen. It has a 3-burner gas grill, stainless steel sink, and a 12V refrigerator. Stereo speakers are included, as well as white aluminum walls.

---|---|---|---|
Clipper 106 Sport | 13 Feet | 1,300 lbs | 5 |

Overview: Keep this pop-up camper in mind. For those who like the feeling of a camper but want to be able to transport a small trailer, the Clipper 106 Sport is a great choice. This pop-up can be extended to accommodate all your family members. The pop-ups make sleeping comfortable.
Size: This trailer is a great size. It is small enough to be easily moved around when closed, but it opens up to almost 18 feet in length, making it much more comfortable. It is very compact at just 13 feet. The trailer weighs in at just 1,500 pounds.
It is 7 feet in width, making it more comfortable and spacious, yet still easy to carry around.
Features: This trailer has the great advantage of being able to pop out so you have extra space and sleeping space. You can sleep up to 5 people in this trailer. You can store more things in it than other campers, which is great if you don’t have a truck to haul everything around. It is also nice to have an Above Floor 16-gallon fresh water tank.
Overall Rating: Overall, I rate this trailer 4-stars. It would have been nice to see a bathroom, but that is difficult in a trailer this small. I found the roof on the interior a little too low, which made it difficult for me. It is overall a great trailer, and I give it 4 stars.
6. Jayco 8SD Jay Sport
Name | Length | Weight | Sleep |
---|---|---|---|
8SD Jay Sport | 8 Feet | 1,570 lbs | 2 |

Overview: The 8SD Jay Sport is a great pop-up trailer. Growing up in a pop-up caravan, I can attest to the Jay Sport’s build quality.
Jay-Sports is one of the most loved pop-up trailers available.
Size: There are many sizes of the Jay Sport, but we prefer the smallest. For around 14,000 dollars, the 8-foot model has most of what you need.
Features: Manufacturers were looking for a compact feature and succeeded. Although these pop-up trailers feel small, they are very spacious. It doesn’t feel like you are in a tent, unlike other popouts. These trailers, even though they are made of tent material, are very well insulated and secure.
Overall Rating: This trailer gets a solid 4 out of 5. I believe that you could spend more to get a trailer with a toilet. While some people are happy to trek long distances to the bathroom at night, others prefer the convenience of a trailer.
7. KZ Sportsmen 160RBT
Name | Length | Weight | Sleep |
---|---|---|---|
KZ Sportsmen Classic | 16 Feet | 2,500 lbs | 5 |

Overview: KZ is a great company, known for its extravagant lifestyle. However, the company’s sportsmen are quite the underdogs and do exceptionally well. It feels luxurious, but it isn’t expensive.
The Sportsmen Classic 160RBT is the lightest option. It is 2,696 pounds so it is over the weight limit, but it is such an excellent trailer that I couldn’t resist it. You can add optional equipment to lower the weight, but they are not required.
Size: It is a bit heavy, but it can still sleep 3-5 people. It’s big enough to keep a small family comfortable, and it comes with all the things you might need.
It is easy to transport and compact enough to fit in any parking lot.

Overall Rating: The trailer is great, but it’s expensive. If you go for the larger model, this trailer will cost you up to $40,000 Is it worth the investment? Only you can decide. It is a very expensive product, so I give it 3 stars.
9. Armadillo Trailers
Name | Length | Weight | Sleep |
---|---|---|---|
Armadillo Trailers | 13.6 Feet | 1,800 lbs | 2-4 |

Overview: This retro-styled travel trailer is my favorite. It has a unique exterior that gives it personality and character. It is very nice inside, and you will be able to tell that by the layout inside.
This trailer is fantastic and has many great features that make it stand out from the rest. All this for just $17,000
Size: It weighs in at just 2,500 pounds. It measures almost 16 feet long and nearly 7 feet wide. This makes sleeping very easy. The ceiling inside is 6 feet high, which I find a bit low, as I am 6 feet tall. The freshwater tank can hold 11 gallons of water and has a 6-foot canopy.

Overview: Another great trailer is the Jayco Hummingbird 16FD. Jayco is another great trailer from a great manufacturer. They have been making great trailers and products for many decades. This trailer is typically priced at around $15,000.
Size: Jayco Hummingbird 16 FD trailer weighs in at 2,550 and is slightly more than 2,500 pounds. This is why I gave it a lower rating. I did my research to find the best trailers below 2,500 lbs.

Ultra-lightweight Travel Trailers Below 2500 Pounds
Many people don’t want a truck or large SUV in order to be able and able to tow a well-equipped, comfortable and functional travel trailer.
A Lightweight travel trailer camper is a great way to travel, but sometimes it can be difficult to find the perfect trailer. A small trailer should be able to fit in most garages and parking spaces. It shouldn’t take up too much of your time either because you can set it up in just a few minutes.
If you love to go camping and traveling but don’t want to cart a lot of bulky equipment, perhaps you should opt for having a small travel trailer instead.
Which travel trailer is the lightest?
The Taxa Cricket Camper is the lightest travel trailer with a weight of only 1450 pounds and 15 feet long.
Name | Length | Weight | Sleep |
---|---|---|---|
Taxa Cricket Camper | 15 Feet | 1,450 lbs | 2 |
What to look for in a small travel trailer
A great difference between the sizes of some compact trailers and tow-behind campers is in floor space in relation to body size.
A 19′ travel trailer that sleeps five people may have just 100 square feet of interior living space, while a 16′ camper that also sleeps five will at least have double this amount or 200 square feet.
If you are tall or big-footed, make sure your prospective camper has more than an adequate room—you can imagine what it would be like to spend two weeks inside something smaller.
Other examples of designs with considerable differences in floor plans include pop-up campers versus slide-in models; wet bath units versus dry bath versions; and A-frames versus hard side.
What cars can pull a 2500-pound travel trailer?
Your owner’s manual will tell you how much weight your SUV, truck, or van can handle depending on whether they are front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive.
The following list includes a few vehicles that can handle towing trailers weighing up to 2,500 pounds. This is the car’s gross weight rating, and it does not take into consideration how much the trailer is loaded down with fuel or supplies.
Some Examples:
- Honda Accord
- Toyota Camry
- Nissan Versa Note
- Ford Mondeo
- Ford Fusion
- Toyota Prius V
- Hyundai Sonata
- Chevy Malibu
- Hyundai Azera
- Hyundai Genesis
- Nissan Altima, Nissan Maxima (2012+)
- Honda CRV (2011+) [tight fit]
- Ford Edge, Ford Explorer(2014+)
- Chevy Tahoe/Suburban(2014+)
- Chevy Impala Limited(2014+) [can tow with right hitch adapter & weight bars}
Conclusion
All this said you will find many similarities between the smallest of campers and those that are much larger. For instance, most offer kitchen areas or galley kitchens where cookware can be stored, as well as sinks so dishes can be washed.
You’ll get both storage areas and sleeping spaces; some campers have dedicated storage cabinets while others provide ample closet space and interior compartments. Some 8′ travel trailers even include optional bunks that you can set up at night but fold away during the day.
